The Smart Choice to Study Engineering and Computer Science

The City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering is now open at Wright College, Truman College, and Harold Washington College, with Daley College and Olive-Harvey College coming soon.

Our engineering and computer science courses prepare students to transfer as a junior—without losing any credits—through guaranteed admission pathways at University of Illinois, Illinois Tech, and more.

The future leaders of the field start their studies at City Colleges and end up working at places like Google, Microsoft, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, 3M, and more.

If you have the desire to work in engineering or computer science, City Colleges has the high-quality classes, intentional support, and institutional connections that can prepare you to go anywhere.

Engineering Access Alliance

City Colleges and U of I expand partnership with new benefits for students.

GUARANTEED TRANSFER TO UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

Start with dual enrollment at City Colleges and U of I, then transfer as a junior to your major.

GUARANTEED TRANSFER PATHWAYS

Transfer as a junior to Illinois Tech, University of Illinois Chicago, and other top engineering schools.

SUPPORT FOR UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS

The “Engineering Bridge” program helps students build up math and science skills and develop connections they’ll need to succeed.

Excellence in Instruction

The City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering was founded based on the nationally-recognized Wright College Engineering Pathways Program, which was named a 2023 Example of Excelencia for its intentional, culturally relevant, evidence-based practices tailored to Latinx students and their communities.

Student Success

Students and alumni from City Colleges have participated in research, internships, advanced their education and careers, and discovered professional opportunities at places like:

  • University of Illinois Grainger College of Engineering
  • Illinois Institute of Technology Armour College of Engineering
  • Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering
  • University of Chicago

Dr. Doris Espiritu has been teaching and leading programs—chemistry, biophysics, engineering, and computer science—at City Colleges of Chicago since 2006. She piloted the Engineering and Computer Science program in 2015 with nine students, and grew it to 650 students by 2024. She was awarded a $1.7 million grant by the National Science Foundation, which led to the development of the Contextualized Bridge—a holistic and programmatic approach for transfer and multi-dimensional first year experience.

She is continually striving to provide research experiences, professional development, and other exceptional opportunities for her students, and in 2023 was named one of Crain’s Notable Women in STEM. She founded the City Colleges Engineering Alumni Organization, and co-founded the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering with Chancellor Juan Salgado. Her partners in this work have grown to include the University of Chicago, University of Minnesota, Purdue University, and the Sloan Foundation.
